A NIGHT PRAYER

The day came and went by
With my natural eyes, have I seen
Only You Lord knows what transpired
My quest, wherever, there you’ve been

In all these events, I saw you true
Undeniably, like you promised you saw me through
I was not alone, yes I know
Your warm embrace, never letting go

Curb my tongue
And please forgive my wrongs
Purge me lord of evil thoughts
And let me not be the source of another man’s bleed
And even when it seems I’m badly hurt,
Teach me how to forgive and forget before the plead

I need you Jesus to keep this pace
Teach me how to learn your holy ways
That I may also learn from today’s mistakes
What do I have to trade for this grace?
Before your people I will sing you praise
Oh! How the earth trembles at Your Holy Face

Let me find courage in deep pain
Let not my miseries end in vain
Enhance my strength towards the kingdom gains
And may your love for me, forever sustain

No matter these mountains, its’ you I thirst
Who can curse the man you bless
Let those who seek my ruin meet their doom
May plagues and wraths fill up their rooms

At your roar my enemies flee
And you make me watch them with glee
Please protect me from youthful death
At the very dusk, I pray thee, my body returns to earth

And if by your grace another day is yet my own,
Then let your arms be yet my home
Come stay with me this night till dawn
For you I pledge my loyalty, till forever comes

IN JESUS NAME I PRAY... ‘‘AMEN"

SLEEPLESS NIGHTS

My eyes are closed, and alert, my mind
Would this night be one more of its kind
I dread this experience
And dearly wish this time would make a difference

In sweet memory of the past
I will try to navigate
Careful to maneuver all worries of long ago
Till present date

Each time I triumph in this beautiful exercise
Same thoughts quietly creeps in and then I open my eyes
I just had to start all over again
More than a thousand attempts ends in vain

It is not my wish to continue this way
Unless when I’m drunk
And that alone will lead me more astray
And I am a P.G.M., not a punk

Sometimes I try to dissect an imaginary figure
Or some funny part of my life before
Perhaps, in some way, I will fall asleep
When I smile, and meditate on them, deep

I recall all my youthful love letters,
And specially, the ones I wrote at the side of our village river

I approached each word in such a great enthusiasm
As if I write to myself, and I’m here with myself,
And myself is here with me, and we start to reason
The possibilities of uniting our blood with the water,
And myself and the company in myself,
Solemnly taking our marital vow,
To love and to cherish ourselves,
Now and forever

Then I would reminisce on the first time I kissed a girl’s lips
How my guts fails me anytime I aim to touch her hips
And then she would gaze at me
With eyes as bright as the sun
As if she means to say to my libido
Rise up man! Come on!

At close range I visualize in its abundance,
Monumental prints of me
If this will help my sleeping system
Part from this redundancy
Sometimes I would go entirely blank
In hope that this method takes me up the rank

Now I have to find another way out
Something new in my life to be happy about
I believe, by some means, big or small,
When these ugly thoughts
Comes around again on my mind
A touching balance I shall find

And at dawn,
At the brake of morning light
I would say to myself,

“Gone are the eras of sleepless nights”
